Contract and Commercial
We have many highly experienced and talented commercial practitioners, who can provide practical and innovative advice to commercial clients, including insurance companies. They are able to supply a comprehensive and up to date range of legal services in a variety of fields of commercial and business law.
Commercial disputes form an important part of the work that we undertake.
We are instructed in all forms of non-marine commercial contract work, with an emphasis on technical cases and contracts for the sale and hire of goods. Members of Chambers have extensive experience of commercial litigation at all levels, appearing in all divisions of the High Court and in the County Court, as well as undertaking commercial arbitrations.
Expertise within 1 Chancery Lane includes sale of goods, commercial claims with a scientific or technical content, jurisdictional disputes, and fiduciary obligations and equitable remedies. We offer particular expertise in contractual disputes, including franchise agreements and credit hire agreements.
Construction and Engineering
We have a wide range of experience in construction and engineering litigation. Our expertise in construction law is complemented by our acknowledged reputation in insurance and insurance-related work, making us a natural choice of counsel for construction-related insurance disputes.
We have represented insurers and commercial clients in professional negligence, environmental and other property damage claims and litigated complex technical cases involving extensive expert evidence and analysis. We are able to provide high quality teams of counsel for large and complex disputes, whether by way of litigation, arbitration, or adjudication.
Members of chambers regularly appear in the Technology and Construction Court and have worked closely with expert witnesses such as architects, engineers and surveyors.
All areas of employment related work are undertaken and we appear on behalf of both employees and employers in all employment related jurisdictions. We also represent parties at internal disciplinary hearings. The core of our work in this area centres on the following areas:
- Breach of confidence
- Restraint of Trade
- Transfer of Undertakings
- Unfair Dismissal
- Wrongful Dismissal
Insurance and Reinsurance
We undertake all forms of non-marine insurance, reinsurance and policy construction work. Many of our clients are major insurers, Lloyd’s syndicates and brokers. All forms of contentious and advisory work are undertaken.
Our practitioners are often able to combine their specialist knowledge of the law of insurance with that of the underlying dispute, such as construction, employer’s liability or professional negligence.
Material Loss claims
We have considerable expertise in all types of material loss claims, including:
- fire, explosion and flood claims
- transport (motor vehicles, aircraft)
- business interruption.
A number of practitioners have expertise in work relating to the electricity, gas and transport industry. This work includes all types of commercial transactions arising out of the supply and distribution of energy and public transport systems. In addition there is a growing volume of work in relation to regulatory disputes and supply contracts involving the energy and transport sectors.
