About 1 Chancery Lane
1 Chancery Lane is a leading civil common law set of barristers’ Chambers. We provide advocacy services and advice in relation to court and tribunal proceedings, inquiries, arbitrations, adjudications and mediations. We also act as arbitrators and mediators. For over 50 years members of these chambers have been involved in some of the leading cases.
We are recognised as a leading set in professional negligence, clinical negligence and healthcare, consumer law, education, personal injury, police, professional discipline and travel law, but our practice encompasses the whole spectrum of common law litigation including contract and commercial, public and regulatory, and property law. Various members of Chambers are recommended in the legal directories as leaders in our practice areas.
We practise from modern premises with spacious conference facilities overlooking the junction of Chancery Lane with Fleet Street. Our aim is to provide an efficient and friendly client-orientated service to our clients.
We can be instructed by or through English solicitors, in-house lawyers and overseas lawyers. In appropriate cases, we are also able to receive instructions directly from non-lawyers. Our clerks will be happy to assist and advise.
The terms on which members of Chambers offer their services, in the absence of express agreement to the contrary, are set out in The (New) Standard Contractual Terms For The Supply Of Legal Services By Barristers To Authorised Persons 2012 – Annex T to The Code of Conduct and can be accessed by using the following link http://www.barcouncil.org.uk/media/185511/contractualterms.pdf
Fees can be discussed and agreed with our clerks on an individual basis.
Some members of Chambers are authorised to accept Public Access instructions. Please see our Public Access page if you are interested in instructing a barrister directly.
1 Chancery Lane is a Quality Mark for the Bar accredited chambers. Quality Mark for the Bar is the quality standard devised by the Legal Services Commission in consultation with the Bar to ensure quality of service and excellence in client care.
Members of Chambers have professional liability insurance provided by the Bar Mutual Fund Limited. The minimum cover which barristers must have is £500,000. Territorial coverage is world-wide, subject to the terms of cover of the Bar Mutual, which may be accessed at
